[Wednesday, July 23, 2003 03:16 AM: This page was launched to celebrate Site’s Fifth Anniversary, which comes in August 21, 2003.

Here’s a full version of our earliest site (Browse - Download). The main ‘frame page’ was dated Saturday, July 18, 1998, 08:28:04 PM CairoST. This indicates best the date of our ‘experimental’ start on the web. It was really an early date by the measures of Arab Internet. Al-Ahram website, for instance, had started exactly in that particular day. The MSoft team did the site. They worked hardly to unleash it online even before the printed version of ‘Movies on Every Screen’ appeared in bookstores and newsstands. Our official launch came soon on Friday, August 21, 1998 11:27:12 AM CairoST. The team was only waiting for the so busy Editor-in-Chief to launch it officially. He finally did, right on the moment he had delivered the last page of the print book to the press. In those days the site was so different. At least, it didn’t include the now-famous ‘views’ pages, so it wasn’t so personal nor so ‘bloggy’ as it might be conceived today. Some pages were done by a very old version of Arabic encoding so they might not display correctly today. We’re sorry. All English pages display well. Some links refer to pages hosted in a different server (Those days were tough especially when working with big media files as we were). Of course you cannot reach all of them online now. You can open all directly from your Downloaded version or use these direct links: hotarabic.htm; Available.htm; Medhat.htm; DalilCover.htm; VideoClip.htm.

Some other early pages:

main.htm An old front page dated November 1999. It’s only the right frame page (replacing beg.htm in the original version above) so you cannot reach other pages of site.

chat.htm I have a little experience of online (or even offline) chatting, but I do know that this was a popular link to one of the early chat websites.

Your Informative & Thoughtful Guide to Movies The front page of the international section of Film Guide project. It still leads to those early reviews posted in site.

Your Complete Guide to Arabic Movies The front page of the Arab section of Film Guide project. It still leads to those early reviews posted in site.

International Box-Office Data available between 1999 and 2002 plus an all-time chart.

Egyptian Box-Office Data available between 1999 and 2002 plus an all-time chart.

Multi-Language Browsing Optimization In those days it was an issue!

We Offer You… Our movie data conventions and standards.

Some more nostalgic pages:

themes.htm Our early series of movie commentaries. They were continued and widened through views pages started December 2, 1999. This marked a new era of site scope of interests.

header00.htm It was for years the header of the Front Page. It started in the eve of the new Millennium. It included the famous marquee reading: ‘Let's say GOODBYE to the Year of Free Britannica, the Decade of WTO, the Century of E=mc^2, the Millennium of Francis Bacon, and say HELLO to the UNKNOWN! … The last version before July 2003 new look is here. You want to know a secret? Originally, our logo was just a typed text. No images! The newer version ‘Celebrating Our Fifth Anniversary - August 21, 2003 10:27 AM MET’ is here.

views.htm The heading of view pages, which started in December 2, 1999. It includes our views pages motto ‘WHEN I WRITE, I THINK NO CONSIDERATIONS —Nobel Prize Winner Naguib Mahfouz. Appearance of this header iframe hasn’t been modified a lot since then! Its Fifth Anniversary version is here.

navbar.htm The navigation bar when views pages were few. The color was orange. Remember? Even here is an older version. The last version before July 2003 new look is here. Actually it was the version everybody hated because its Java script buttons were tough to perform on most old machines. It looked It very beautiful but by that time most users were ignoring to download what was so called Microsoft Virtual Machine. For a while we adviced our visitors to use Java Virtual Machine.

banners.htm Included some ads but in particular it bore the announcement of ‘October 29, 2002 08:26 PM MET… Celebrating Half a Million Words of Views Pages.’ Also, here is an older version, which displays some classical ads.

VideoClip.htm Latest list of movie clips (November 22, 1999). We hope you still can download them!

index.htm Our latest mirror sites now function as redirecting pages only. See them in their web location here and here.

The iframes announced on March 6, 2004 ‘At Any Moment from Now on… Celebrating a Million Words of Views Pages!’ are here: header00.htm, views.htm.

The iframes celebrated the occasion itself ‘March 17, 2004 09:12 AM MET… Celebrating a Million Words of Views Pages!’ are here: header00.htm, views.htm.

Now views pages exceeded a million words but you still can consult this October 2002 guide to read them all.

The iframe of ‘September 4, 2004: Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of ‘Post-Human Civilization’!’ is here: header00.htm.

Talk a look on the most enduring iframe used to be located at the bottom of the front-page that was used for years, almost from the dawn of site up to the end of 2004, to include our first sponsoring ad ever, to link to some early Egyptian and Arabic portals and above all to thank Yahoo! for ‘the new category created especially for our site and for the almost instant listing of the site in their wonderful search directory’. It’s front.htm.
